Ithaca Move to Amend

We'll do what we can to keep this up to date, but check out the Facebook page too for more info.

Thursday December 9, 2014 Pay to Play Movie Screening

Come join us on Thursday December 9th, 2014 at 7-9pm, for a screening of "Pay to Play" and discussion with guest Barbara Lifton (legislative schedule permitting). We'll be at the Annex of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Ithaca, at the corner of Buffalo and Aurora.

Friday May 10, 2013 - Rally to Stop Fracking Propaganda 4:30pm East end of the Ithaca Commons near the bus stop. Come and get your money stamp so you can very legally have your money convey the message "Abolish Corporate Rights" or "No Fracking Way". End corporate dominance of our government, and ultimately, much of American life. Is it right that money is considered free speech and human-created corporations, are considered human and having the right to free speech, even when they drown out human voices that aren't so bent on misleading people? We want to put an end to this tragic situation. No wonder so many people don't trust government. It isn't "We the People" as it should be!

Sunday Mar 03, 2013 - Citizen's United Teach-in from 2-5pm at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca Annex at Aurora and Buffalo Streets. Come discuss the legal bases of this Supreme Court decision and how we can regulate money in elections. Hear MTA cofounder David Cobb's talk on the status of corporate constitutional rights. Q&A as well! It should be very engaging. Feel free to bring snacks.

Sunday Jan 20, 2013 - Money Out, Voters In Rally to Amend the US Constitution to end corporate rule, on the third anniversary of the Citizen's United Supreme Court decision that gave corporations the freedom to buy politicians. Ithaca Commons Bernie Milton Pavilion at 1 pm (Worker's Center above Autumn Leaves bookstore will serve as backup location in case of inclement weather). Come hear speakers and (hopefully, because we're still working on it) some live music. Let's bring people of all political stripes together to learn more about the Citizen's United decision and the efforts underway to overturn it. Bring friends, bring skeptics! And we can continue to honor MLK that day, during a weekend of many events doing the same. If you haven't heard it yet, check out his Beyond Vietnam speech and come to talk about it with others.

Friday Nov 09, 2012 - Film screening of American Autumn with director Dennis Trainor. American Autumn is a documentary about the Occupy Wall Street Movement. 7pm at Ithaca's First Baptist Church, a location for the Occupy Ithaca Group. $5.

Sunday Feb 26, 2012 - Tom Neilson Concert Benefit for Ithaca Move to Amend. Tom played guitar and sang his sharp-witted and humorous political music. Local musician Will Fudeman opened the show with his friend John Simon. It all happened at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca, at the corner of Aurora and Buffalo Streets. Suggested donation was $15. People gave what they could though, so no one was turned away. Tom and Ithaca Move to Amend splitted the proceeds. Thanks to the First Unitarian Social Justice Council for their sponsorship of the event.

Saturday Jan 21, 2012 - Teach-in. We got together at the Tompkins County Worker's Center where we heard two book reports, one on Howard's Zinn's Voices of a People's History of the US and one on Thom Hartmann's Unequal Protection. We also listened to a speech by Martin Luther King that was similar his "Beyond Vietnam" speech. Eric Acree, of Cornell's Africana Library, moderated a great discussion.

Friday Jan 20, 2012 - Occupy the Courts! At the Federal Courthouse in Binghamton, NY we took part in a nation-wide day of protest of the Citizen's United Supreme Court Decision. Search for the YouTube video from that day! Read an interview with the originator of the Occupy the Courts idea, Steve Justino.
